Dine out and do good. On February 5, in celebration of Second Harvest Hero Day, participating Toronto cafes and restaurants are donating a portion of their sales to Second Harvest.
Funds raised allow Second Harvest to rescue perfectly good food that would otherwise go to waste, and share it with community agencies throughout Toronto. It is then distributed to children, adults and seniors in need. Every day, Second Harvest rescues and delivers "enough food to provide 20,000 meals. Since 1985 it has rescued and delivered more than 90 million pounds of good food."
This year’s Heroes include Balzac’s Coffee Roasters, Caplansky’s, Dufflet, Kupfert & Kim, The Lakeview, OrderIt, The Rude Boy, Salad King and Twist, the new spot by Roger Mooking out at the airport.
In addition to Second Harvest Hero Day, there's Hero Week and Hero Month! Check it out:
Tomorrow, Kupfert & Kim (where all food is wheatless and meatless) will donate $1 for every box sold at every location. Should you wish for takout, every order placed on Orderit, 50 cents gets donated. And if you’re a caffeine fiend, head to Balzac's, where they’ll be donating $1 for every pound of their new Seasonal Selection coffee sold.
Feb 5 - 12
From the entire week, Salad King will donate to Second Harvest by bills being rounded up to the nearest dollar. In addition, on Feb 5, they will donate all food sales to Second Harvest.
The Lakeview will donate $1 for each The B.E.S.T Sandwich sold (bacon, melted Havarti, spinach and tomato on dark rye).
All of February $1 donations
A buck will be donated for every Rubenesque sandwich sold at Caplansky's, all 4” Cowboy Cookies at Dufflet, every salad purchased at The Rude Boy (They are also matching any customer donations up to $250!) and from sales of Roasted Fish at Twist in the airport's Terminal 1.
Eat well and help others. It really is that easy.
