The #TAKEOUTTORONTO #DELIVERYTORONTO Project

It’s been an overwhelming three weeks for everyone, including the hospitality industry. Places shuttered while others launched new takeout and delivery options. Some businesses that previously closed are back with new options and formats. In a matter of days, various bars and restaurants transformed into boutique wine shops, grocery stores, and neighbourhood bodegas, while new grocers and food shops debuted to help meet demand.

It’s impossible to keep up-to-date with who’s doing what right now, because IT. CHANGES. EVERY. DAY. Radio stations and online businesses have been offering free ad space for restaurants, which is great, but you have to be listening to that station or be on that platform or site. News outlets and blogs are running lists of certain restaurants offering takeout and/or delivery, but it excludes everyone else. Many diners are relying on delivery apps, but it still represents only a portion of businesses offering takeout and delivery, as not everyone can afford the high fees they charge.

So I’ve launched the #TAKEOUTTORONTO #DELIVERYTORONTO Project, inspired by similar campaigns happening across the globe, to raise awareness, support foodservice businesses, and bring everyone together in one place.

BUSINESSES

If you’re a restaurant, bar, brewery, bakery, cafe, or food shop offering takeout and/or delivery, use #TAKEOUTTORONTO and #DELIVERYTORONTO across your social media platforms, so diners can search for options without having to go to an app or try to keep up with their feeds right now.

Ask customers to take part in the Takeout/Delivery Challenge.

Show your support. Spread the word. Help keep our local foodservice businesses open. And hopefully soon, we’ll be able to see everyone doing takeout and delivery across Toronto and the GTA in one place.

FAQ

I have a food/drink business. How can I participate?

If you’re a restaurant, bar, brewery, bakery, cafe, food shop or other type of foodservice business offering takeout and/or delivery, use #TAKEOUTTORONTO and #DELIVERYTORONTO across your social media platforms, so diners can search for options without having to go to an app or try to keep up with their feeds right now. Ask customers to post photos of their purchases using the hashtags.

If you’d like a free personalized graphic (see example below) to indicate which services you’re offering, email me. When posted on social using the hashtags above, this will show up in the hashtag search results and indicate which services you offer at first glance - without someone having to click on a photo first.

I’m a customer/diner. How can I help?

Take part in the Takeout/Delivery Challenge!

My business isn’t in downtown Toronto. Can I still participate?

Absolutely! We want as many people involved as possible, so Scarborough, Mississauga, Markham, Etobicoke, and other surrounding areas - join in!

Is this related to the #TakeOutCanada initiative?

No. That is a Canada-wide promotion for takeout once a week.

My project allows people to show their support not just on a weekly basis, but every day. It gathers every foodservice business in Toronto/GTA offering takeout and delivery in one place on each social media platform using the hashtags #TAKEOUTTORONTO #DELIVERYTORONTO, so that people can easily discover them, show their support, and keep these businesses open now and post-pandemic.

Does any of this cost anything?

It’s free!
