Open/Closed for the week of July 11-17

I’ve got 13 new restaurant and bar openings (wow), and some amazing food and drink events for you to try this weekend.

You should go. But you’re probably busy playing Pokémon Go, aren’t you?

Here’s the very latest:

Open:

 

Amma Roti House 
2014 Queen St. E.

The mouthwatering menu - Lamb Jalfergy (sm $8.99/lg $13), Goan Fish (sm $9.99/ g $14.99) and Chicken Biryani (sm $9/lg $13) – comes with roti or rice, both made with organic grains.

Angelo's Coal Fired Pizza   
106 Front St. E.

Angelo’s opened Saturday to an overwhelming response. The first coal-fired pizza in Toronto has arrived, and we have the first look for you tomorrow morning. 

Barrio  
884 Queen St. E.

Leslieville just got its own cerveceria, complete with various patios.

Barrio opens tomorrow. Stay tuned for a closer look.

Crafty Coyote Ale House 
511 Bloor St. W.

Crafty Coyote opened this weekend.

With 30 rotating taps, three local casks, and a menu filled with breakfast items (Scrambled Croissant $13.95), sandwiches (Homemade Crumbed Chicken Schnitzel $12.95), and full dinner menu (Crafty Chicken Wings $11.95, Baja Fish Tacos $11.95), you might be tempted to stay all day.

Guu Izakaya Toronto

Guu is back! The Queen and Dufferin location opened Saturday.

KT’s 
682 Queen St. E.

Riverside’s long-anticipated KT’s opened Saturday as a pop-up, just in time for the Euro Cup finals. There are a bunch of fab brews (as well as cocktails and other bevvies on hand) and small bar menu (Corn Dog $8, Frito Pie $7, Pastrami Melt $8), along with TVs to catch the action. p.s. Cash only.

The cool vibe is courtesy of owner Paul Campbell, who is the head honcho of next door’s BBQ joint, Aft Kitchen & Bar.

Nando's
741 Queen St. W.

The Afro-Portuguese chain serving flame-grilled chicken in peri-peri opens of their new Queen West location tomorrow.

Another location at Pape and Danforth is slated to open in September.

Oasis Rooftop
99 Blue Jays Way

There’s a new rooftop patio in town and this one comes complete with agave tequilas directly from Jalisco, Mexico.

Oasis Rooftop, located at the top of Wayne Gretzky's,  is a full-on taqueria with Chef Andres Marquez (Fonda Lola, Milagro) at the stove. Menu items include nachos, fajitas, , tostadas and Taco Fish (not to be confused with fish tacos).

OMG On The Park 
47 Abell St.

OMG Baked Goodness softly opens their second location on Lisgar Park across from the Drake Hotel this Saturday, with a grand opening to follow in August.

Pinot's Palette
2866 Dundas St. W.

If you’ve always wanted to paint, but need a little extra guidance and/or liquid courage, Pinot’s Palette is for you.

The new spot in the Junction celebrates its grand opening today.
 
Scaddabush Italian Kitchen & Bar 
580 Progress Ave.

Scaddabush’s newest location opened Tuesday night, right across from Scarborough Town Centre.

So eat your heart out. If you need bigger pants, just head back to the mall.

Smashburger 

The American burger restaurant known for its fresh, smashed-to-order burgers, opened its first restaurant in Toronto on Saturday at Toronto Pearson International Airport in the new Terminal Three food court.

Woody’s Burgers Bar and Grill
383 Jane St.

There’s a new place to get fresh, handmade burgers in Baby Point.

Opened just this week, Woody’s offers seven ounce, made in-house & hand pressed daily patties using only local and naturally raised meats, grilled over a Canadian hardwood burning grill.

Selections include Beef ($7.15), Beef Stuffed Gorgonzola Blue ($7.85), Tandoori Chicken ($7.35),Turkey ($7.35), Bison ($8.45) and Veggie ($7.65) There are also signature burgers, sides and a few mains.

Opening soon:

Poop Café - "Toronto's first toilet themed dessert bar" - is opening soon in Koreatown. There is a chart featuring types of poo as well as what caffeine does to your system. And no, I’m not kidding.

Closed:

Trimurti Indian on Queen West has closed.

Events:

Summerlicious is in full effect. 

Restaurant documentary The Missing Ingredient opens Friday.

Great vendors, great cause.  The Junction Night Market this Saturday is a not-to-be-missed event. The community food festival is held to benefit local food programs, with food and drink tickets just $5 each.  

The Summer Doc Series: Designed by Nature, Refined by Tradition  at The Japan Foundation includes fascinating documentaries on incorporating heirloom vegetables into innovative cuisine in Yamagata, and making world-class saké at Yoshida Brewery, a 144-year-old family-owned small brewery in northern Japan.

This summer try every cuisine under the sun at Toronto Food & Drink Festivals.
