Open/Closed: week of September 21-27, 2017

A summer heatwave AND 16 openings this week? This is bonkers, but in a good way. See you on the patio.

Here’s the very latest:

OPENINGS

Scarborough’s new teashop The Alley (3260 Midland Ave., F107) with “handcrafted” tapioca and house-made sugar cane syrup, makes sippers such as Oreo Devil Slush and selections from the “Winter Series” including Drown-a-Bear Au Lait and Purple Rice Cocoa.

The owners of Lil’ Baci have launched another Italian spot, Annabelle Pasta Bar (909 Davenport Rd.).

In the mood for “Mediterranean-Mid-Eastern” fare and Moroccan mezes and shareable plates? Head to Bar Sybanne (229 Ossington Ave.) by chef Howard Dubrovsky.

Just steps away from Uncle Tetsu and Pablo Cheesetart is new kid on the block Butter Baker (120 Dundas St. W.). With signature item Almond Walnut Croissant, made with almonds and candied walnuts, wrapped in a croissant and drizzled with light frosting, lineups are bound to happen here, too. All pastries are made with natural ingredients including free run eggs, butter, fresh herbs and nuts.

You can compare notes now that Cheers Cut’s (372 Yonge St.) signature Samurai Crispy Chicken XXL, “Taiwan’s largest fried 12-ounce chicken,” is available just a few feet away from Hot Star Large Fried Chicken’s offerings at 374 Yonge St.

Get prepped and organized just in time for Thanksgiving at new Cuisinart Shop in Hudson’s Bay Queen Street (176 Yonge St. 7th floor).

Cumbrae’s (1591 Bayview Ave.) found a new home right across the street. Doors open tomorrow.

Dagu Rice Noodle (20 Gibson Dr.) launches Saturday at Steeles and Warden. Another location (downtown, Bay and Dundas) is set to open shortly.

Square One just got its very own Eva’s Original Chimneys (100 City Centre Dr.).

Shop for Korean groceries and cooked food at Yonge and Wellesley’s Galleria Kitchen Express (558 Yonge St.).

“Premium dessert boutique” La Rocca Creative Kitchen (1285 Elgin Mills Rd., Unit 5) in Richmond Hill is ready to satisfy your sweet tooth.

Two-floor brewery, beer school and 400-seat restaurant and patio over 11,000 square feet Northern Maverick Brewing Co. (115 Bathurst St.) truly has it all. Stay tuned for The Reveal coming soon.

Porchetta Roll (4120 Dixie Rd, Unit 2) in Mississauga makes salads, poutine and an array of sandwiches - Southern Fried Buttermilk Chicken, Smoked Veal Sausage, and Shrimp Po’ Boy – in addition to the eponymous classic Italian pork roast.

Upgrade your usual bagel and cream cheese order at restaurateur Anthony Rose’s second Schmaltz Appetizing (224 Ossington Ave.), with Pastrami Cured Lox and a Chub Chub – gravlax, whitefish salad, horseradish cream cheese and doll cucumbers on a bagel.

Confectionery shop Squish Candies (100 City Centre Dr.) is right next to Eva’s Original Chimneys in Square One. Japanese Cheesecake sensation Love Me Sweet hopes to open in the space very soon.

Natural food store The Sweet Potato (108 Vine Ave.) opens today at their new Junction location.

Untold (1581 Bayview Ave.) closed abruptly, just two weeks after opening
