You can now pick up beer while grocery shopping
esterday marked the first day of beer being sold in select grocery stores across Ontario.
Here’s a rundown what you need to know:
How many stores now carry beer?
Fifty-eight grocery stores have been given the go ahead to sell beer, with up to 450 grocery stores to eventually carry brews over the next few years.
How where the stores chosen?
To be eligible to sell beer, the grocery stores had to carry "a full line of food products in its store," have at least 10,000 sq. ft. of retail space for food products, and not be primarily a pharmacy, even if a pharmacy is in store.
How much space will be dedicated to beer?
Brews get a minimum of 20% of shelf space.
What kind of beer is being carried?
A variety of small brewers.
Will it cost more to buy beer at the grocery store?
No. The price will be the same whether you buy it at the grocery store, The Beer Store or LCBO.
