Readers of my Open/Closed – a weekly roundup of restaurant arrivals and closures - will have noticed a sudden influx of ice cream shops (Granted, they’ve got to get in now to take advantage of the short season).
But one is particular is sure to capture the attention of streaming fans.
Netflix’s Stranger Things Season 3 premiered Thursday, July 4th. To celebrate the return of the the 1980’s sci-fi hit (and one of Netflix’s top watched shows), Baskin-Robbins at Woodbine Mall has been fully transformed into Scoops Ahoy. The virtual facsimile of the ice cream shop featured this season, nautical theme and all, will transport you to Starcourt Mall in the fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana as if Eleven, Mike, Dustin, and Lucas experienced it.
The Etobicoke location is one of only two shops of the +8,000 Baskin-Robbins venues across the globe (Canada is home to 101) to feature a Scoops Ahoy reimagining - the other is in Burbank, California.
Two menu items will be of particular interest to ST fans:
- U.S.S. Butterscotch
The triple threat frozen treat was made for brown sugar butter lovers: rich butterscotch ice cream studded with butterscotch toffee pieces and toffee ribbons.
- Byers’ House Lights Polar Pizza
Ice cream pizza? Yes, it’s a thing.
A round Chocolate Chip Polar Pizza crust is covered with Baskin-Robbins’ Made with Snickers® ice cream, then topped with chocolate M&Ms® and drizzled with soft fudge. Slice it as you would savoury ‘za and settle in for a binge-sesh like no other.
Here today, gone the 18th
The Scoops Ahoy shop is only here for a short time - you’ve got until Thursday July 18th to get yourself these limited-edition treats.
Can’t make it out to the west end? Visit your local Baskin-Robbins to try the new U.S.S. Butterscotch and array of Stranger Things-inspired desserts. You can still get June releases of Upside Down Pralines, Elevenade Freezes, and Demogorgon Sundaes, along with collectable fresh packs, and exclusive Baskin-Robbins and Stranger Things merchandise.
Mornings may be for coffee and contemplation, but summer is for all things ice cream.
